Christleton 5k- 9 May 2008

Given the recent heatwave, conditions weren’t nearly as hot as they could have been for this popular event with its very high level of competition.  It’s not as flat as they say, with the course consisting of 1 & 2/3 laps of a slope which makes for a rather grim uphill fourth kilometre, but at least there’s a nice drop to the finish.

The outstanding veteran Rose Rogers won the LV55 group in a very impressive 22.53.  Jay Jennions was having her best run yet, flying through the first 4k in 15.07 with potential to finish under 19 minutes.  Disaster then struck as her right calf blew out, but she was able to finish ninth in 19.15 and hobble to the ambulance for an ice pack.  Jay is now training in the pool and is recovering well but should find out from her physio this week as to whether she will be good to go back on the roads in time for the Coventry 10k on 1 June
