9th March 2008
With the forecasted storms yet to hit, conditions were fair on this
undulating, deceptively difficult 5 mile course, the fifth in the Border League
2007/08 season.Team spirit was well in
abundance too- thanks go to Val for doing the numbers (and holding the keys)
and to Jane, Linda, Neil and members of Striders’ families who turned out to
give support.
In an extremely competitive women’s field Jay Jennions paid for a very fast
start as she eventually slipped from pole position to fourth however her PB of
31.43 was of some consolation. Next in, leading the men’s team home in another
massive PB of 33.41, was the inspirational Nick Chadwick, whose times are shrinking
as fast as he is. Mike O’Brien and Sid Bailey travelled from afar to give the men’s
team a welcome boost in quality times of 34.23 and 38.47 respectively, whilst Peter
Rooney delivered a very good 36.42. Lorna
Royle, fresh from the Farndon 10k last week, really gave it some to post a
stunning PB of 38.25. Leslie Ingram, who
like Lorna did Farndon in under 50 minutes, showed she is well on her way back
after injury at the Wrexham Half with a strong 40.17, whilst Carol Boynton
anchored the women’s team home with a fine 41.53.
Again great to see so many of the club out in force. Next Border League is “up
in the hills above Frodsham” so we’ve got a month to get in that hill training… Aston/ Gladstone
anyone? Or are we talking more like Moel
Fammau?
