The Christleton sunshine of two weeks ago was a distant memory as six Deestriders braved horrendous conditions for this ultimate endurance event in a weekend which saw a similar event in the Lakes make the national news for all the wrong reasons. Unsurprisingly, times were considerably affected, but bearing in mind the extra time people spent out there it makes their achievements all the more impressive.
Linda Martin led the club home, coming close to breaking the 4 hour barrier with a fantastic time of 4:03. The surgically repaired Fred Aird achieved a hugely creditable time of 4:15 which again demonstrated the challenges with the conditions on the day. Nick Chadwick completed the course in a determined 4:39. Lorna Royle and Leslie Ingram did a fantastic job together and managed to break 5:00 which is representative of the vast amount of training they completed. Phil Taylor, suffering with flu all the previous week, found his time really suffered too, but still managed an immensely courageous 5:28.
