Well done to Martin Witty who despite calf issues managed an exceptional PB of 19.12 at this top quality race.
An excellent turnout from the Deestriders at this popular event. Martin Witty’s run of top form continues as he set another PB and led the club home with a tremendous 1.27.05. Kev Burns was outstanding with 1.47.22 and he was pushed all the way by resident journeyman Mike O’Brien with 1.47.43. Phil Taylor, looking to break 1.45, was well on for that until he blew up after eight miles and struggled valiantly home, but still managed to break 1.50 with 1.49.46. The ladies were well represented too- the unstoppable LV60 Rose Rogers led the girls in with a strong 1.51.34 to be followed by Jane Evans, another LV60 who gave a terrific account of herself with 2.14.23. Val Blair, who not all that long ago struggled to cover more than three miles before her knee gave way, has made a wonderful return to the long distances with an extremely creditable 2.27.27.
Jay Jennions, seeking an event to break her back into competition after her 3.18 in London, took part in the Delamere Forest Race for Life. The Races are fun runs to raise money for Cancer Research UK, but there are always a few serious athletes and Jay found herself way out front on the trail course with a tough marathon runner from the Wirral who led most of the way until about 4k. Jay then widened the gap to claim her first Race for Life victory in 23.08.
