Border League 4- Abergele - 14 February 2010

This five mile course, run in perfect, overcast conditions, heads west along the coast and through a local caravan park before turning back to the start. The Deestriders men were out in force with Steve Thomas leading the charge with an excellent 29.10. Martin Witty exceeded his expectations with a hard-fought PB of 32.51 whilst Fred Aird, struggling with an ongoing calf problem, managed a surprisingly fast 34.06. Strong performances from Chris Jones (35.11) and Mike O’Brien (36.11) and yet another PB from Phil Taylor with 36.21. Kev Burns was outstanding with 37.37 and in next were club mentor Mac McColl and new recruit John Ingram (Leslie’s husband), who did the club proud with times well under 40 minutes. Sid Bailey and Mike Norris anchored the men with very good times of 41.09 and 41.21 respectively.

Although only two women were able to take part for the club they gave tremendous performances. Jay Jennions teamed up at the start line with Tattenhall’s Andy Blair as both were hoping for a sub-33. Both well achieved this with Andy attaining a well-deserved 32.38 and Jay is back at her best with a brilliant 32.14 and fifth lady, while Linda Martin continues to defy possible Achilles surgery with a courageous 36.09.
