Seaside Sizzlers- Blackpool Marathon and Border League Race 6 (Prestatyn)- Sunday 11 April 2010

Huge congratulations go to Martin Witty who took part in the Blackpool Marathon. Having set himself a target of sub-3.30 he was thrilled to go one better and break 3.15 with an outstanding 3.14.36.

Also up for a trip to the beach were those who took part in the sixth Border League race at Prestatyn. The flat 5.14 mile course was run in warm conditions with a strong headwind on the return leg

Steve Thomas once again led the charge for the men, coming in a fantastic 27th with 30.14. Chris Jones was next in with one of his finest road races of recent times (35.25) with Mike O’Brien hot on his heels with an on-form 35.37. A good 37.41 from Alan Jones was followed by Phil Taylor in 38.59, the massively improved Phil found it hard work today but he has been carrying a heel problem so did well all the same. Kev Burns did well to break 40 minutes with 39.21 and Peter Rooney came close and made it count for the lads with a brave 40.06. The ever-present Border League veteran Sid Bailey put in a welcome appearance once again to anchor the men’s team with 45.06.

Jay Jennions had a very fast start (2 miles in 11.59) and found herself paying the price on the way back, but her overall 32.55 won her fifth lady. Despite the competitive nature of the League, Jane Evans is a wonderful reminder to us all that ultimately we do this because we enjoy it. She remains an essential and valuable team member and did very well with 48.14. It is great to see Border League Captain Val Blair back racing again and she broke 50 minutes on the mentally tough course with a very good 49.59.
