Jay Jennions and Martin Witty took part in the Sun Centre 5k which incorporated this year’s North Wales Championships. The weather was good and wind wasn’t a huge factor, unlike last year’s event, in which Martin competed. Both runners have recently done marathons so neither was feeling particularly sharp for this race, however both achieved their aim of sub 20 with Jay taking the bronze for the ladies’ event in an excellent 19.35 and Martin hot on her heels with a terrific 19.41.
The weather started out hot and eventually cooled to more bearable for the inaugural Chester Marathon which appears to have been extremely successful, with approximately 750 finishers. 19 year old Andy Edwards, outstanding in his age group over the shorter distances, struggled in the middle and towards the end of an event which tends to be dominated by those who have built up endurance over many years, but still managed a stunning 3.35 overall, a massive improvement on his 4.12 in Snowdonia last October and payoff for all those epic training runs on Moel Fammau. Meanwhile the wonderfully disciplined Emily Davies, who has been running for less than two years, had a tremendous run, breaking the 5 hour barrier with 4.59.
